    A MONOCHROME MASTERPIECE

by Gatsby on 13/8/24Capitol Theatre, Sydney - Haymarket

If your thing is flashy colourful sets, lighting and costumes with the band tucked out of sight in the pit, Chicago may not be for you. However, if you like an interesting story put to some great jazz and brought to life by a stellar cast then you'll love Chicago. So, guys don your pinstripe suits and dolls your flapper dresses for a great night out at the Capitol speakeasy.

    A Fantastic Show

by Margie on 29/7/24Capitol Theatre, Sydney - Haymarket

The precision in the dancing and the timing of the movements with the music were sensational. The setting was excellent, having the orchestra on stage was great. I can't praise it enough. The talent of everyone in it was fantastic. The whole show was sensational.

A middling production of a great show

by heinousfairy on 29/7/24Capitol Theatre, Sydney - Haymarket

Chicago is a great show and the revival production that's been playing for the last few decades is solid. Unfortunately, this was not a great production of that. One of the main issues was that there just seemed to be a charisma vacuum on stage. Ironically, the person with the most charisma played the character who was not supposed to have any. I could see that the actor playing Velma was giving it her all, but she just wasn't vocally strong enough or dynamic enough to pull the role off. Mama seemed to be phoning it in. Even the choreography was a little loose, when Fosse choreography should be as tight as the outfits. I'm not sure if they've all been on the road a while and are just tired? One positive I'll throw out is that for a refreshing change, the audio was at a good level. It seems to be the curse of modern musicals that they crank up the volume to distortion point, but this was pretty much perfectly set, so well done audio crew.

    Amazing!

by Jodie on 28/7/24Capitol Theatre, Sydney - Haymarket

Yesterday was my first day at Capital theater and what a gorgeous complex! The staff were just pleasant and happy. The seats were so comfortable. The musical itself was just amazing, each performer was fantastic! We traveled from the South Coast for the day, just so I could watch Chicago and it was well worth it.

    Enjoyable music

by Country Gal on 28/7/24Capitol Theatre, Sydney - Haymarket

We enjoyed the music and singing but found the set very dark and we couldnt make out some of the ensemble and/or in fact some of the 'charcters' because of dark attire and we were sitting in the dress circle. Probably not as great an experience as several of the other musicals we have viewed at the Capitol Thearter. Of course "Love Never Dies"will always be hard to beat.

We absolutely loved this production, we have a great wealth of talent in this country, lucky us. Anthony Warlow, wow, he’s still got it and can he hold a note. The ensemble was fantastic, such wonderful standouts, the leads were fabulous, let’s face it they did it seamlessly, just awesome.
