Ring the Bells: Triple ARIA Winners to perform their acclaimed Leonard Cohen Show - on Leonard’s 90th birthday!!!
CAMELOT LOUNGE & QIRKZ IN THE HUNTER proudly presents MONSIEUR CAMEMBERT'S LEONARD COHEN SHOW
With special guest singers DEBORAH CONWAY, ABBY DOBSON (Leonardo’s Bride), LYN BOWTELL (10x Golden Guitar Winner), TIMOTHY JAMES BOWEN, LUKE ESCOMBE, STEPHANIE CHEROTE, and… a 50-PIECE CHOIR!!!
After massive, critically acclaimed sold-out shows at Sydney’s City Recital Hall in 2017, 2018 & 2019, and the Sydney Opera House in 2020, Monsieur Camembert returns for the first time in 4yrs with its all-star, blockbuster show celebrating the life, music, poetry of iconic Canadian poet songwriter Leonard Cohen.
Drawing on material that spans 35 years, Monsieur Camembert's entirely original interpretations traverse styles rarely (if ever) associated with Cohen, including swing, jazz, tango, Latin, klezmer and more. Linking the songs with Cohen's remarkable poetry and prose, the show also features audio fragments of Cohen himself.
For 26 years, Sydney’s own 3x ARIA-award-winning band Monsieur Camembert has been performing and touring its joyful, wild and wonderful repertoire, playing capacity concert halls nationally and internationally, including headlining the International Leonard Cohen Festival in Canada.
The big-band line-up for this unmissable event will feature: Yaron Hallis – vocals, guitar | Nick Hoorweg – double-bass Eddie Bronson - saxes flute, accordion | Daniel Pliner –piano Charlie Meadows – guitar |Cameron Reid – drums Anatoli Torjinski – cello |Susie Bishop – violin, vocals Victor Valdes – Mexican harp | George Doukas - Bouzouki Bukhu – horsehair fiddle, Mongolian throat singing
“An uplifting tribute…Yaron Hallis’ singing brings joie de vivre to the originals. Monsieur Camembert does justice to the emotional, lyrical and melodic intent of the songs while adding a new dimension.” – Weekend Australian
