About

Are we too focused on race? Have recent anti-racist movements like The Voice and Black Lives Matter abandoned the colour-blind spirit of the civil rights pioneers? Coleman Hughes is an American writer, podcaster and public intellectual known for his criticism of modern social-justice ideas about racism. In this special live feature of ‘Uncomfortable Conversations with Josh Szeps’, Coleman and Josh will wrestle with racial taboos like affirmative action, acknowledgements of country, the racial health gap, and Black American politics in an era of wokeness and Trump. Drawing from research and personal insights, Coleman argues for a society that embraces a colour-blind ethos, aiming to foster a more inclusive culture.

Since creating a splash by resigning from ABC Radio Sydney to expand his podcast into video and live events, Josh Szeps’ interview show, Uncomfortable Conversations, has smashed through ten million downloads. Rejecting easy groupthink, Uncomfortable Conversations frees listeners to consider unpopular opinions from diverse guests. Brooking no-nonsense, taking no prisoners, it has become the indispensable ‘safe space’ for provocative celebrities to debate deep ideas.

Coleman Hughes is a writer and activist whose work has been published in the New York Times and Wall Street Journal. He appears on prominent shows like The View, Real Time with Bill Maher, and the Joe Rogan Experience. His new book is "The End of Race Politics: Arguments for a Colorblind America".

This one-night-only event promises to be a celebration of the power of conversation to connect, challenge and change our understanding of the world. Embark on a journey of intellectual exploration and candid dialogue as Coleman Hughes brings the provocative spirit of Szeps’ widely acclaimed podcast to Melbourne.

Don’t miss this unique chance to witness two brilliant minds at work live on stage.
